The region has many strong cluster and they are The Paper Province is a unique cluster of forest-industry companies, this cluster also works closely with The Pacakaging Arena cluster. There are are more than 10 000 employes in 170 companies in this cluster. Engeineering and steel industry employs about 11 000, most compaies work in the engineering sector amd a few represent the steel industry. Compare IT is a cluster of industrial information technology companies consisting approx 100 companies with 5 000 emplyees. Beside this main clusters the county also have Enviroment industry, food industry and a very strong Karlstad University.

The Paper Provice cluster has a long tradion and is steadily developing just now a nation wide cluster with this cluster is starating named The Packaging Arena. The Compare cluster has had a difficult time due to the general recession within IT, however the Compare cluster never really went as bad as in many other regions and now evrything seams to go back to normal and companies within the cluster has started up to employ new staff again. Engineering and Steel cluster is steadily developing and taking shares in the global arena.
